Join us for the 3rd Workshop on Cross-Cultural Considerations in NLP

Call for Papers 📄

Luciana Benotti co-organised a workshop at NAACL 2025 (2025 Annual Conference of the Nations of the Americas Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics), focusing one how cultural contexts shape NLP technologies and their impacts.

The workshop acknowledges that while NLP has made impressive advances, these technologies often reflect the cultural biases embedded in their training data, potentially causing harm to underrepresented cultures.

The workshop aims to build a research agenda on understanding how global cultures and NLP intersect, detecting and mitigating cultural biases, and developing cross-culturally competent systems.

Benotti and team have been inviting papers on topics including cultural impacts on NLP data and models, incorporating cultural knowledge into NLP, detecting cultural harms and improving data collection to capture cultural differences.

The event will feature notable speakers including Prof. Lise Dobrin, Dr. Ben Hutchinson, Prof. Te Taka Keegan, and Prof. Monojit Choudhury, with submission deadlines in early 2025 and the workshop scheduled for May 4, 2025.
